Research Tools: IE8 Custom Search Provider

and Everything.

and Everything.

There are plenty of people who hate Microsoft Internet Explorer, but I am not one of them.  I prefer it to Firefox, and Google Chrome.  Maybe you’re one of those people, but here’s another reason not to be.

You can add a list of things to Internet Explorer 8 from here, but the real magic is a little deeper.  Do you have a site you search frequently, but they haven’t yet created a handy little search tool for you to use?  Have no fear, IE8 is here.

IE8 gives you the ability to easily add your own custom search to IE8.  I promise.  You don’t have to know how to write code, or crack software, or risk sites with popups.  All you have to do is go here http://www.ieaddons.com/en/createsearch.aspx.

Search for TEST anywhere you like and copy and paste the results URL into the appropriate box.  Give it a name, and cross your fingers.  It should work.

It worked for me here here and now searching California Code is a snap.

It worked through the Westlaw citation search and now I can enter the appropriate citation and get Westlaw results in an instant.

It did not work with West’s Black’s Law Dictionary on the other hand.

2 out of 3 Not bad.

Enjoy.
